Gold Bar found in German lake

Lucky Teenager finds Gold Bar….. in lake

Gold Bar

Only if it was this easy to explore for Gold, we would like to say it was because of OCRIS but that would be a lie.

A teenage girl in Germany will be allowed to keep a gold bar worth $25,000 AUD found in a lake after the owner could not be identified, police said.

The 16-year-old found the 500g gold bar at a depth of about 2m while swimming near the shore of Bavaria’s Koenigssee lake last August.

She handed it into police, who were unable to find the owner.

It is still not clear how the bar ended up in the lake.

A six-month investigation could not identify the owner and, as a result, the teenager will be allowed to keep the gold. The girl has not been identified.

The bar’s identity number had been defaced but officials managed to restore it, German media reported.

The find revived rumours of Nazi gold supposedly lost in the lake, near Germany’s southern border with Austria, but reports said the find was not connected to the Nazi era.

Expedio – Always Accurate Data

Giant Diamond Found by Lucapa

Lucapa finds giant diamond

giant diamond

The company recovered a 404.2 carat diamond during alluvial mining at Mining Block 8, above the high-priority L259 kimberlitic signature, at the Lulo concession in Angola.

The giant diamond has been confirmed as a top-tier Type IIa D-colour gem.

Lucapa said it was the biggest diamond ever uncovered by an Australian company, and was the 27th biggest recorded diamond in the world.

The previous largest diamond recovered at Lulo was 133.4 carats, found only weeks ago.

The diamond represents the fourth 100-plus carat diamond found at Lulo since mining began in August 2015, and the 114th large special diamond.

Lucapa’s average selling price for run-of-mine diamonds has been $A2360 per carat, but this stone is expected to go for much more.

Lucapa CEO Stephen Weatherell said the company (40%) and its partners Endiama (32%) and Rosas & Petalas (28%) were proud of the find.

“We have always emphasised the very special nature of the Lulo diamond field and this recovery – together with the other 100 carat-plus diamonds recovered this year alone – is further evidence of that,” he said.

Expedio Top Tip – Data Handling

Data Handling

Expedio Top Tip for February better Data Handling:

Data Handling

Poor Data Handling procedures can lead to loss of data, money and time. This can put a resource project under huge risk of failure. Companies are happy to spend millions of dollars on drilling and lab test work, but lack when it comes to storing the data it returns.

Data Handling problems can be attributed to these main factors;

  • Break down in data flow procedures;
    • loading the same data files several times
    • field collected data and lab results not making it back to the main office and the master data set
  • Non centralised data;
    • multiple copies of the data/database, users and managers working on separate copies of the data. Who has the most recent and up to date version?
  • Data being stored on an unsecure/non backed up system;
    • what would happen if the computer/server dies, do you lose millions of dollars worth of data

neXTek Wrapup

Expedio at neXTek

The neXTek event held on 26 November was busy, well attended and informative – overall a great day for this inaugural event organised by the MineSpace folk.  Many delegates and exhibitors I chatted with really liked the 1 day conference format and the compact exhibition space hosting new and technologically advanced products and services relevant to exploration and mining.  Particular favourites were the underground virtual reality experience, a portable self-contained seismic unit and enterprise level 4G communication networks. The Expedio presentation and OCRIS product demonstrations were well received with a lot of interest from delegates unhappy with their current ‘old-school’ data capture and  management software  products.  Expedio would like to announce Tara French from Regis Resources as the winner of our lovely bottle of McLaren Vale red, congratulations Tara!  Thankyou to all attendees and organisers of neXTek, and we hope to see you all again next year.

Kambalda Geology Symposium Wrapup

Kambalda Geology Symposium held on 21 October 2015 was a great success with around 70 geologists from the surrounding mines and exploration projects attending. It was the first time this event has been held since 2008 and the first hosted at the fantastic facilities on offer at the Kambalda Recreation Centre.

Many speakers were presenting for the first time and all were impressive with a wide variety of topics from local mine geology targeting Ni Sulphides to the latest technology in down hole optical viewing tools, geo-metallurgy and best practise data management principles.

It was very encouraging to meet with so many young people who appreciated the event and the opportunity to meet geologists from the surrounding projects, and of course to enjoy a drink together afterwards.

Expedio would like to thank all attendees and the co-sponsors Cube Consulting and BMGS for their efforts in making the day enjoyable and productive for all.  We hope to see you all again next year
